Philadelphia’s sights and attractions are many and varied, and listed below are some places that are popular destinations for charter bus visitors.
An easy charter bus ride from the Schuylkill Expressway, the Philadelphia Zoo in Fairmount Park was America’s first zoo. Opened in July of 1874, today the zoo is currently undergoing major renovations in order to house its animals in more natural surroundings and allow visitors better access. Covering an area of over 42 hectares and with more than 1,300 animals calling the Philadelphia Zoo home, this zoo is one of premier zoos in the world for breeding animals that have been found difficult to breed in captivity.
Based on the popular children's television program, and a favorite with charter bus visitors, Sesame Place in Langhorne will bring back memories of childhood for all. This theme is is based on Sesame Street, and includes a variety of rides, shows, and water attractions suited to very young children. The first theme park in Pennsylvania to become completely smoke free, the park is open from late April through Halloween, and is also open on Thanksgiving weekend and some days in December. Attractions include Grover’s Vapor Trail, Twiddlebug Land, The Count’s Splash Castle and Big Bird’s Rambling River.
Valley Forge National Historical Park consists of numerous farmsteads north and south of the Schuylkill River that served as the 1777-1778 winter encampment for General Washington's troops. Within easy reach of Philadelphia by charter bus, this historical park was Pennsylvania's first state park in 1893. In 1976, the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which expanded its parklands to include more of the encampment grounds. There are approximately one dozen encampment buildings in the park as well as numerous recreations of original cabins. A visit to Valley Forge can take as little as a few hours up to a full day depending on how much of the park you wish to see. Charter bus visitors should be sure to bring a camera, since the views of the historic buildings and Pennsylvania countryside offer many photo opportunities.
